At Vogel Bros. Building Co., we believe that all jobsite accidents are preventable and that our actions make a difference. With that in mind, we will be actively participating in the 2018 Trench Safety Stand Down, June 18-23, in an effort to raise trench safety awareness throughout our organization. During this time we will be sending out multiple toolbox talks, as well as additional handouts covering this harrowing topic. The highlight of the week will be multiple on-site presentations led by local trench safety professionals.

In 2016*, trench related fatalities nearly doubled in comparison to the previous five year average. As a result of this, OSHA has declared that one of the agency’s top priorities for 2018 is the reduction of trench and excavation related incidents and fatalities. In support of this goal, the agency is revising its trenching and excavation national emphasis program which dates back to 1985. OSHA also supports the 2018 Trench Safety Stand Down, which is organized by the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA).

Beliefs direct thinking – thinking motivates behaviors – and behaviors create results. It is our hope that by participating in the upcoming safety stand-down we will be able to increase trenching and excavation safety awareness across all of our jobsites in support of our beliefs. Through this awareness, our craft workers and subcontractors will be better prepared to prevent and eliminate the hazards associated with these environments. As a result, we will continue to prevent trenching and excavation accidents both now and in the future!
