Green Building

Vogel Bros. Building Co. offers experience and knowledge in the construction of Green Buildings. Our 2002, 52,000 sq.ft. office building for Affiliated Engineers Inc. (AEI) was one of the first buildings in the Madison area to qualify and receive Leed's Certification. Vogel Bros'. assisted AEI and the architectural team in meeting several objectives to obtain the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) waste management certification. Project requirements included:

  • Demonstration of on-site separation of construction materials
  • Reusing and recycling at least 50%
    of the construction materials
  • Mechanical and electrical systems
    designed for energy efficiency
  • Natural lighting for energy efficiency
  • Use of building materials that were environmentally friendly

Vogel Bros. was awarded a DNR Demonstration Grant to implement a construction materials management program. Our goal was to recycle and reuse at least 50% of the construction waste to assist AEI with meeting the requirements. Waste Cap was hired to implement the construction materials management plan, working with Madison Environmental Group, Inc. as the on-site recycling manager.

When the project was completed, Vogel Bros. had successfully recycled and reused 75% of the construction waste by implementing a well-designed recycling plan. Our experience partnering with the project team met the needs and desires of AEI. The experience and knowledge gained allows Vogel Bros. to incorporate similar recycling plans and helps us bring our waste conservation practices to all of our future building projects.
