Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but other duties may be assigned):
Pipefitting and equipment setting operations involve skilled and manual labor tasks.  Employee must perform a variety of repetitive duties involving physical activity.

A. Quality Control

  • Comply with job assignments and specific instructions from the Superintendent and/or Foreman

B. Safety

  • Comply with the Vogel Bros. Building Co. Safety Program, jobsite specific safety rules and directions from Supervisors
  • Maintain high safety standards by setting a personal example
  • Maintain and use safety equipment properly
  • Participate in all scheduled Safety Meetings

C. Schedule

  • Follow direction from the Superintendent and/or Foreman to complete assigned tasks and goals in the expected time period
  • Provide accurate information to complete time cards

D. Support Services

  • Inform the Superintendent or Foreman of equipment shortages or specific needs for the task
  • Attend scheduled training sessions to improve quality and productivity

E. General Duties

  • Prepare or work from blueprints, specifications, sketches and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s)
  • Layout, fabricate, assemble and install (route) and align pipe and piping systems (such as ductile iron, PVC, steel, copper and black iron), machinery and equipment (such as pumps, collection mechanisms, generators, tanks, motors, shafting, conveyors and rail systems)
  • Dismantle and move pipe and piping systems, machinery and equipment
  • Set and check anchor bolts and fastening devices before concrete placements
  • Parameters of work must be within precise limits and at a high level of accuracy
  • Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction activities
  • Understand basic knowledge of piping systems, materials and methods
  • Operate and utilize the following equipment and machinery as part of the pipefitting and equipment setting process: hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, power tools, hammers, wrenches, crowbars, dollies, rollers, hand trucks, jacks, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs
  • Clean tools, equipment and work areas
  • All tools required to complete the work must be provided by the pipefitter / equipment setter. These include cutting goggles, welding gloves, hammer, tape measure, wedges (2), plumb bob, chalk line, levels, laser, combination wrenches, adjustable wrenches, slip joint pliers, pipe wrap, wire brush and any other trade-specific tools.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials and tools of the appropriate trade
  • Knowledge of qualities and uses of various raw materials, tools and equipment of the specific trade
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trade
  • Knowledge of the use and care of tools, materials and equipment of the trade
  • Ability to use hand tools including hammers, saws, levels, cutting tools, grinders, wrenches, cutting torches, pipe cutting machine, etc. as appropriate to the trade
  • Ability to properly and safely lift, carry and hold building materials and supplies
  • Ability to interface with other personnel
  • Ability to perform light to moderate manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
    Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to instruct and coordinate a crew
  • Ability to identify problems and communicate facts to the Superintendent and Foreman
  • Ability to make decision based on measurable criteria and visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage time and equipment
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and to climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding throughout each work day
  • Ability to use hands, arms, fingers, and to reach
  • Ability to work from heights
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 85 pounds without assistance

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to heat, cold, rain, and other outdoor weather conditions
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • High, precarious locations
  • Walking surfaces may be uneven and affected by weather and construction conditions
