In conjunction with building the District's new Glacial Drumlin Middle School, the existing Winnequah middle school in Monona was renovated to house the District's 3rd through 6th graders. The renovation work was phased to occur over two summer breaks as to not interrupt the school year. The duration of the first phase was June 2007 through August 2007. The second phase began in June 2008 and was completed in August 2008.

Renovations included a new entrance vestibule with storefront framing and clerestory windows to highlight the main entrance. New upper and lower parking lots were built and feature new landscaping.

All bathrooms were renovated to be ADA complaint and feature new partitions and ceramic tile. The library was renovated with a new central reception desk, with new ceiling, carpet, and paint. All of the classrooms receive cosmetic upgrades including new paint, ceilings, casework, and entrance doors. Common areas were brightened up with ceilings, lights, and new cubbies and lockers.
