Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but other duties may be assigned):
Heavy equipment operations involve skilled and manual labor tasks.  Employee must perform a variety of repetitive duties involving physical activity.

A. Quality Control

  • Comply with job assignments and specific instructions from the Superintendent and/or Foreman

B. Safety

  • Comply with Vogel Bros. Building Co. Safety Program, jobsite specific safety rules, and directions from Supervisors
  • Maintain high safety standards by setting a personal example
  • Maintain and use safety equipment properly
  • Participate in all scheduled Safety Meetings

C. Schedule

  • Follow direction from the Superintendent and/or Foreman to complete assigned tasks and goals in the expected time period
  • Provide accurate information to complete time cards

D. Support Services

  • Inform the Superintendent or Foreman of equipment shortages
  • Attend scheduled training sessions to improve quality and productivity

E. General Duties

  • Perform safe operations of the vehicle in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and Company policies
  • Maintain and store vehicle properly and safely
  • Operate and provide general maintenance for the vehicle and the equipment (e.g. rigging equipment, mudsills, cribbing, flagging, strobe lights)
  • Perform duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling
  • Conduct daily inspections on vehicles. All discrepancies must be addressed
  • Maintain proper certification in each specific vehicle
  • Operate and maintain the following equipment: pneumatic and electrical tools, concrete vibrator, pipeline top man, riggers, manhole builder, compactors (self-propelled), concrete saws, cut-off saws, hand-operated trencher, jackhammer and grade setter

F. General Operator Equipment Includes

  • Concrete mixer, curing machine, forklifts, power grizzly, power broom, pressure grout machine, and ride on earth compaction equipment

G. Skilled Operator Equipment Includes

  • Rubber tire backhoes or trackhoes, loaders, boom trucks, dozers, motor graders and scrapers.

H. Additional Duties (When not operating equipment, the following duties are expected)

  • Dig, spread and level dirt and gravel using a pick and shovel
  • Clean equipment and work areas
  • Clean, sharpen and repair hand and bench tools
  • Mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt gravel and other materials using proper tools and equipment
  • Join, wrap, seal and bed sections of underground pipe and pipe penetrations
  • Set, clean and remove forms

Job Requirements:

  • A valid and current driver’s license is required to operate vehicle equipment
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials and tools of the appropriate trade
  • Knowledge of qualities and uses of various raw materials, tools and equipment of the specific trade
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trade
  • Knowledge of the use, care and operations of tools, materials and equipment of the trade
  • Ability to properly and safely lift, carry, hold and operate hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, roto hammers, grinder, etc
  • Ability to use hand tools including hammers, saws, levels, cutting tools, grinders, wrenches, etc. as appropriate to the trade
  • Ability to properly and safely lift, carry and hold building materials and supplies
  • Ability to interface with other personnel
  • Ability to use good judgment in order to perform complicated tasks
  • Ability to perform light to moderate manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to identify problems and communicate facts to the Superintendent and Foreman
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage time and equipment
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and bend for full work days
  • Ability to use hands, arms, fingers, legs, feet, and to reach
  • Ability to work from heights
  • Ability to meet all eyesight and visual requirements (natural or corrective) of each vehicle certification
  • Ability to use eye-hand coordination while operating vehicles
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to heat, cold, rain, and other outdoor weather conditions
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Vibrations, jarring and jolting from machine operation
  • High, precarious locations
  • Walking surfaces may be uneven and affected by weather and construction conditions
