Fatalities caused by falls from elevations continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for over 1/3 of the incidents recorded. The annual National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-Down campaign (May 8 – 12, 2017), raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.
The goal of the national campaign is to prevent fatal falls from roofs, ladders and scaffolds by encouraging construction contractors to:
- PLAN ahead to get the job done safely
- PROVIDE the right equipment
- TRAIN everyone to use the equipment safely.
The term “safety stand-down” is used to describe how normal work is paused and the entire construction site focuses on a particular safety issue. Vogel Bros. will be participating in this year’s Safety Stand-Down by hosting special events at jobsites in Florida the week of May 8th and in Wisconsin the week of May 15th.
The National Safety Stand-Down campaign is a group effort of partnerships between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), the National Safety Council (NSC), and more. Vogel Bros. is proud to join with these national organizations to promote safety for everyone on our jobsites. We are invested in our customer’s success, and that starts with putting our employees and their safety first. Be sure to tune in to our LinkedIn and Facebook pages throughout the weeks of May 8th and May 15th as we post pictures from our events, as well as resources on fall protection safety and what you can do to keep yourself safe.
