By Peter Vogel, President and CEO

As we celebrate the 4th of July, I think it is appropriate to reflect on what we are celebrating. The 4th of July is a celebration of our founders’ declaration of independence from British rule and led to the founding of our Nation. The 4th has become one of biggest annual holiday celebrations with people participating in parades, picnics, family gatherings and fireworks.

This day also provides a good time to acknowledge and give thanks for the many freedoms and opportunities we have as Americans. We live in one of the most prosperous countries in the world and are provided with boundless opportunities to excel both personally and professionally. We also are provided the opportunity to speak our mind and respectfully challenge one another’s thoughts and ideas.

The opportunities we are given also come with responsibilities. These responsibilities include contributing in a positive fashion to the communities we live in, to the nation as a whole and to the planet we all live on. Vogel Bros.’ mission is to “Continually improve our services in order to enhance the lives of the people in the communities we serve.” When we live out this mission, we fulfill a good portion of the responsibilities one has as a member of society.

We live in a time that sometimes is defined by the 24/7 news cycle and a focus on negative discourse between various ideologies. The 4th of July can – and should – be a day where we can put these disagreements aside and celebrate the abundant freedoms we share. We should also take time to thank the many individuals whose sacrifices over the generations have allowed us to maintain these freedoms.

So, on the day that we celebrate the founding of our country, I wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July. Let Freedom Ring!
